Chocolate Mint Matcha drink

  • 1 TBSP of unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 TBSP of sugar or sweetener of choice (I used 3 stevia packets

  • 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract OR 2 drops food grade peppermint essential oil

  • Ice for the top "ice bed"

In a large glass, add cocoa powder, sweetener, and milk. Stir vigorously with a long spoon, whisk, or shake with ice in a beverage shaker. Work until cocoa powder and sweetener incorporate into milk. Top with ice for "bed" for the matcha topping to rest on.


  • 1 tsp matcha powder

  • 3 TBSP heavy whipping cream

  • 1 tsp sugar, sweetener, or 1 packet of sweetener

  • Optional: Garnish with two fresh mint leaves

Using a hand or stand mixer, combine matcha powder, heavy cream, and sweetener. Whip on medium speed for 3 minutes, or until fluffy and peaks have formed. Alternatively, whisk with a hand whisk vigorously to achieve the same whipped cream effect.

The most indulgent matcha drink I've ever tried. Inspired by a common order when I worked at Starbucks, the mint and chip Frappucino. People would often order a chocolate chip Frappucino with peppermint syrup and matcha powder for a drink that looked and tasted exactly like mint and chip ice cream.

This week has felt like the calm after the storm. Our air quality has returned to normal and our weather has cooled down exponentially. In need of an afternoon pick-me-up of both caffeine and sweetness, I hatched this concoction. I wish I could say I sipped slowly, but I CHUGGED it, it was too good to stop! I was then charged to do my cleaning, and enjoyed a wonderful walk afterwards. It was truly a perfect evening and I spent the whole walk beaming. Whether it was the outdoors or this treat, I felt a very welcome revitalization to my spirit.
